Usyk received a 90-day postponement regarding the organization of the next fight
After defeating British boxer Daniel Dubois, Usyk received a mandatory challenger for the WBO title — New Zealander Joseph Parker. At the end of July, the organization mandated the boxers to negotiate the terms of the fight. The boxers' camps were given 30 days to organize the bout, but Usyk requested a postponement due to a back injury.
The WBO scheduled a re-examination for Usyk, but according to World Boxing News, WBO President Gustavo Oliveri was inclined to grant the Ukrainian boxer a postponement until the end of 2025.
On Sunday, September 7, the WBO published an official decision regarding Usyk's request for a postponement of the fight. The Ukrainian boxer was granted 90 days for recovery, after which the reigning champion will be obliged to resume negotiations for the next bout.
However, Usyk's next opponent may not be Joseph Parker. The WBO announced that the New Zealander will fight against British boxer Fabio Wardley, who is a contender for the Ukrainian's title according to WBA rankings.
