Two people were killed and 14 injured in Odessa following a night-time attack
As a result of the night-time attack on Odesa, hits on residential buildings have been recorded. This was reported by Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration.
According to him, the enemy targeted residential areas of the city. Hits were recorded on several buildings, including two two-storey and one three-storey buildings. A non-residential building was also damaged.
At one of the locations, medics treated two people at the scene; at another, one woman was hospitalised. It later emerged that a 75-year-old couple had been killed in the attack. A further fifteen people were injured, eight of whom are in hospital.
Oleg Kipper, Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, reported that one of the drones struck a three-storey residential building, destroying flats on the second and third floors. According to him, a 72-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds; the woman was taken to hospital. Other buildings and vehicles were also damaged.
According to the State Emergency Service, two two-storey residential buildings were destroyed. Rescue workers saved one person and evacuated 20 residents, including two children. A further 16 people were evacuated from another building. In total, according to the service, two people were killed and 14 injured.
Psychologists from the State Emergency Service provided assistance to over 50 residents during the night, including three children.
As of this morning, strikes on residential buildings and a hostel have been recorded in the Khadzhibey district. The blast wave damaged around 270 windows. Nearly 200 utility workers and 14 pieces of equipment have been deployed to deal with the aftermath.
Utility services are clearing the areas and boarding up damaged windows. Operational headquarters and mobile centres have been set up where residents can receive assistance and submit claims for compensation under the ‘e-Recovery’ programme. 97 claims have already been accepted.
In addition, during the night, a drone was reported to have struck a merchant vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was en route to one of the ports of Greater Odesa. A fire broke out on board, which was extinguished by the crew. There are no reported casualties.
Rescue workers, medics, law enforcement officers and utility services are working at the scene. Clean-up operations following the attack are ongoing, and further details are being confirmed.
