In Odessa, the SSU detained TCC servicemen following a shootout (VIDEO) – updated
Today, 21 April, an incident involving the use of firearms and the detention of people in military uniform took place on Balkivska Street in Odesa. This has been reported by local Telegram channels and social media users. The information was subsequently confirmed by sources within the Defence Forces, the police, and the territorial recruitment and social support centres.
This concerns an operation by the Security Service of Ukraine targeting representatives of territorial recruitment centres. Eyewitnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots. Videos have been shared online showing people wearing clothing marked ‘SBU’ detaining individuals in military uniform and forcing them face-down onto the tarmac. Gunshots can be heard in the footage; one vehicle attempted to leave the scene but was subsequently stopped.
The Defence Forces stated that information regarding the detention of TCC representatives by SBU personnel is being verified. The press service of the Odesa Regional Police briefly commented on the incident, noting that details would be provided later.
Subsequently, the Odesa Regional Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support confirmed the detention of their staff members.
According to available information, the TCC staff were caught extorting money from a man. He had previously been detained by TCC staff. Despite presenting his documents (including his UBD ID), they continued to pressure him and stated that they would ‘detain’ him anyway. The man from whom they were attempting to extort money pretended to agree to hand over $30,000, but first contacted the SBU.
This was followed by a special operation involving gunfire and a chase — the suspects were detained.
According to the TCC, the leadership of the regional centre travelled to the scene to ascertain all the details. Further information is promised to be released following official clarification. All the circumstances of the incident are being established. Information is being updated.
