The fourth 112 Emergency Service communications centre in Ukraine has opened in Odessa
Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, together with Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, visited the centre during a working visit. The newly established unit will be staffed by 80 operators who have undergone the necessary training. Among them are seven veterans who were wounded at the front or returned from captivity.
This is now the fourth 112 Service communications centre in Ukraine. Over more than two and a half years of operation, operators at the centres in Kyiv, Lviv and Dnipro have handled over 11 million calls.
This winter, the service handled not only calls during emergencies. Operators received and processed over 100,000 calls related to the lack of heating, water and electricity.
An off-site government meeting also took place during the visit. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to allocate 12.85 billion hryvnias for initial preparations for the coming winter as part of regional resilience plans.
This winter, the bodies and units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs provided support to millions of Ukrainians. In particular, this involved the operation of warming centres, the restoration of multi-apartment buildings and the execution of complex works at energy facilities.
Work to strengthen the system’s capabilities is ongoing to ensure readiness for a rapid response to potential challenges.
