On 9 April, a further 1,000 bodies of the deceased were returned to Ukraine from Russia. The Russians claim that they are Ukrainian soldiers.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Experts will examine the bodies to identify them and hand them over to the families of the deceased for burial. During previous exchanges, it emerged that the Russians had also handed over the bodies of Russian Federation soldiers.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko explained that the process of identifying the bodies is complicated by their condition. Furthermore, the Russian Federation sometimes hands over the bodies of several people in a single package, whilst on other occasions experts find the remains of a single person in different packages or even at different stages of repatriation.
