Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv sentenced Artem Kosov, a former employee of the State Security Service, to life imprisonment for the murder of 15-year-old Maksym Materukhin.
On Monday, September 22, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv announced the verdict for Artem Kosov, who was accused of killing teenager Maxim Materukhina at the Kyiv funicular station in April 2024 – he received a life sentence.
During the announcement of the verdict, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko was present at the hearing, representing the state prosecution in this case. He stated that "the verdict is as close to justice as possible".
"The Prosecutor General emphasized that sufficient evidence has been gathered, which, in the opinion of the prosecution, clearly shows — Kosov, in a state of alcohol and drug intoxication, intentionally, out of hooligan motives, murdered Maxim Materukhina," - reported the Office of the Prosecutor General.
As noted by Suspilne, the parents of the deceased boy consider the life imprisonment a "just verdict" for Kosov. Tomorrow, Maxim Materukhina would have turned 18 years old.
"We waited for this day for a long time. These are incredible emotions that cannot be expressed in words. It is gratitude to the people who supported us, who stood with us until this victorious end. Justice has been served. And everyone heard — life imprisonment. For the murder of our son, he received what he deserves," said Maxim's mother, Irina Materukhina.

On April 7, 2024, the boy died at the funicular station. According to witnesses, after exiting the carriage at the upper station, the man pushed the teenager. He fell, shattered the glass with his head, received a fatal neck wound, and bled out within minutes before the ambulance arrived. The deceased was Maxim Materukhina, who was studying in 10-A grade at Kyiv School No. 36. Seven teenagers who witnessed the tragic incident gave testimony.
The State Bureau of Investigation opened a criminal case because the conflict participant with the teenager was a driver in the Department of State Security. Later, the man was notified of suspicion of intentional murder. During the tragedy, he was not performing official duties.
