Vitaliy Kim may head the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs — media reports
This has been reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a well-informed source.
The publication’s source confirmed that Kim’s candidacy had been discussed.
“Yes, it was discussed,” the source replied when asked about the possible appointment of the head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration to the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs.
The source did not provide any further details. It is not known whether Kim received an official offer, whether he agreed to move to the government, or whether his candidacy will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration.
No official announcement has been made regarding the possible appointment either. Kim himself has not publicly commented on this information.
Staff changes are being discussed as part of the formation of the new Cabinet of Ministers. Following the Prime Minister’s resignation, the entire government steps down, and new ministers are to be appointed by the Verkhovna Rada.
Who currently heads the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs
Natalia Kalmykova has been leading the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs since September 2024. Prior to her appointment as minister, she served as Deputy Minister of Defence for Social Development.
In this role, Kalmykova succeeded the acting minister, Oleksandr Porhun. The previous head of the ministry, Yulia Laputina, resigned in February 2024.
It is not yet known whether Kalmykova will remain in the new government. The information about Kim is based solely on a report from a single unnamed source.
What is known about Vitaliy Kim
Vitaliy Kim has headed the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration since November 2020. Following the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he became head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.
Before entering public service, Kim was involved in business. During the 2019 parliamentary elections, he headed the regional headquarters of the ‘Servant of the People’ party in the Mykolaiv region.
Kim gained nationwide recognition in the early months of the full-scale war, when he regularly reported on the defence of the Mykolaiv region, shelling and the situation in the region.
For him to be appointed minister, his candidacy must be endorsed by the Verkhovna Rada. The mere fact that his candidacy is being discussed does not yet mean that it will be formally submitted to or approved by parliament.
