Ukrainian forces have struck the Balaklava Thermal Power Station in Sevastopol. It generates almost 50 per cent of Crimea’s electricity
This was reported by the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to preliminary data, the attack damaged the machine hall housing the cooling system of one of the Siemens SGT5-2000E turbines. The statement clarified that, should the damage be confirmed, repairs to the equipment could take between 2 and 5 months.
“The Balaklava Thermal Power Station is the backbone of the peninsula’s energy supply. Together with the Tavriya Thermal Power Station (Simferopol), the plant supplies around 90 per cent of Crimea’s energy needs. These are the two pillars of the region’s own electricity generation,” the statement added.
As a reminder, on 14 July, following the attack, the governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, wrote that due to the attack, rolling blackouts would be implemented – two hours with power, six without.
