Forecasters have warned of dangerous weather today
Unstable weather is expected across Ukraine on 19 May, with brief showers and thunderstorms affecting almost the entire country. In the southern and most central regions, hail and squalls of up to 15–20 metres per second are possible in places.

This is according to weather forecaster Natalka Didenko and data from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre.

According to Natalka Didenko, on 19 May, temperatures across Ukraine will vary. In the western regions, as well as in the Zhytomyr region, cooler air is expected – ranging from +17 to +21 degrees.

In the south, the central regions, as well as in the Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions, warmer weather is forecast – from +25 to +29 degrees.

In the rest of the country, temperatures will be comfortable – ranging from +22 to +25 degrees.

Rain, thunderstorms and squalls

The forecaster noted that unsettled weather with short-lived thunderstorms is expected across the country. Squalls are possible in the regions where it will be warmest.

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre, it will be cloudy with sunny spells across Ukraine. There will be short-lived showers and thunderstorms in some places at night and almost everywhere during the day.

In the southern and most central regions, hail and squalls with wind speeds of up to 15–20 metres per second are possible in some areas.

The wind will be mainly north-westerly, 5-10 metres per second.

Weather in Kyiv

Typical May weather is expected in Kyiv on 19 May. Short-lived thunderstorms are forecast for the capital, with maximum air temperatures reaching around +25 degrees.

Natalka Didenko emphasised that unsettled weather in Ukraine will continue over the coming days.

Forecasters had previously warned that unsettled weather would continue in Ukraine over the coming days, with rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in a number of regions.

RBC-Ukraine has also prepared a detailed weather forecast for the rest of the week, including information on temperature changes and possible precipitation by region.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre analysed weather conditions at the start of the month and explained which plants in fields, vegetable gardens and orchards are at risk.

As reported by ThePublic, 19 May is Family Doctor Day in Ukraine, and Orthodox believers honour Saint John of Gotf. In folk tradition, this day was associated with rain, health, sowing cucumbers and everyday taboos.
