Zelenskyy is set to take part in the ‘Ramstein’ meeting and the EU summit in Brussels
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will take part in a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defence in the ‘Ramstein’ format, to be held on 18 June at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte announced the Ukrainian President’s participation ahead of the start of the meeting of the Alliance’s defence ministers.
“We have several meetings today: the Nuclear Planning Group – we’ll start with that. Then we will have a meeting of the Contact Group on Defence Issues for Ukraine. I can announce that President Zelenskyy will also be taking part this afternoon, so this is important. I had the honour of hosting him yesterday evening,” said Mark Rutte.
The day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mark Rutte held a meeting in Brussels. According to the President of Ukraine, the parties discussed the agreements reached with partners during the G7 summit.
“We discussed the measures we agreed to implement with our partners during the G7 summit. Most importantly, we discussed work on strengthening our defences and obtaining licences from the US to manufacture air defence systems. We also discussed making new contributions to the PURL,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President also announced that he had received an invitation from Mark Rutte to attend the NATO summit, which will take place in Ankara in July.
In addition to participating in the ‘Ramstein’ format, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will attend the European Union summit, which will take place in Brussels on 18 and 19 June.
According to sources, discussions with European leaders are expected to focus on involving Europe in the negotiation process to end the war with Russia, as well as on further progress in negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
