120 fox pelts were found on a bus travelling from Warsaw to Ivano-Frankivsk
This was reported by the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The fur was being transported as a consignment from Poland
The violation was detected at the ‘Hrushiv’ border crossing point during an inspection of the ‘Warsaw – Ivano-Frankivsk’ coach. Border guards, together with customs officers, inspected the vehicle following information from the detachment’s operational staff. Undeclared fur was found in the luggage compartment of the bus. According to the 65-year-old driver, he had received the fox skins in Poland as a parcel and was to deliver them to Ivano-Frankivsk. According to preliminary estimates, the value of the seized skins is around 400,000 hryvnias. The undeclared goods were seized. The fur cargo has now been transferred to the customs warehouse, which will handle further procedures.
Rules for transporting fur across the border
Fur is classified as goods that must undergo customs clearance when imported into Ukraine. It cannot be transported as a standard consignment without declaration and the relevant documents. In the case of the Warsaw–Ivano-Frankivsk bus, the consignment consisted of 120 fox skins. According to preliminary estimates, the value of the cargo is around 400,000 hryvnias. It was precisely because of the lack of declaration that border guards, together with customs officers, seized the fur and transferred it to the customs warehouse.
