6 December — St. Nicholas Day in Ukraine
Today, December 6, 2025, millions of Ukrainians celebrate St. Nicholas Day.
Since 2023, after the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) and many other churches transitioned to the new Julian calendar, the date of celebration shifted from the "traditional" December 19. That is why believers celebrate St. Nicholas on December 6.
The holiday is dedicated to the memory of Archbishop Saint Nicholas of Myra, known for his generosity and help to the needy. Children eagerly await gifts, which St. Nicholas places under the pillow at night or leaves in their shoes.
In addition to gifts, the day is filled with Christian traditions and good deeds — prayers, charity, caring for others. Often, charitable events are organized on this day for orphans, displaced persons, or those in trouble.
The holiday also has a deep spiritual significance. In the folk calendar, December 6 is considered the day when "winter gets on its feet."
For many, this holiday is an opportunity to believe in miracles, a time for warm words, gifts, and good deeds. May this celebration bring joy to every home.
