Bill No. 15251 has been tabled in the Verkhovna Rada, which provides for administrative liability for the provision of paid services relating to fortune-telling, magic, esotericism and the occult. The bill also covers the advertising and promotion of such activities

This has been reported by hromadske, citing the Verkhovna Rada’s official website.

Advertisements for “magical services” may be banned

As the title of the document suggests, it concerns the possible introduction of administrative liability for:

  • paid services involving fortune-telling, psychic abilities, magic, esotericism and the occult;
  • advertising such services;
  • the promotion and dissemination of information about the activities of fortune-tellers, magicians or psychics.

The author of the initiative is MP Georgiy Mazurashu from the “Servant of the People” faction. The draft bill has now been submitted to the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada for consideration.

The bill emerged following a high-profile statement in court

The MP’s assistant, Mykola Gunko, described the document as “a reaction to the wave of information in recent days”. This refers to a statement made by SAPO prosecutor Valentina Hrebeniuk during a court hearing on 12 May. She reported that the then-head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, had allegedly corresponded with a contact named “Veronika Feng Shui Office” regarding appointments to government posts. According to the prosecutor, the correspondence discussed candidates for the posts of Prime Minister, Minister of Health, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleg Tatarov and other officials. The investigation claims that the woman had a separate phone for communicating with Yermak. According to journalists from “Schemes”, the woman in question is Veronika Anikievich, who runs the Telegram channel “Lunar Hours” and provides astrological consultations. Andriy Yermak himself, commenting on the situation to journalists, stated that he has several acquaintances named Veronika and does not understand who exactly is being referred to.
