Air defence forces shot down 642 aerial targets during Russia’s large-scale attack on Ukraine
From the evening of 1 June, Russian forces launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine, using attack drones as well as air-, sea- and land-based missiles.
Kyiv was the main target of the attack. Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, the Poltava region and other areas were also hit.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, electronic warfare units detected 729 air attack vehicles. These included 73 missiles and 656 drones of various types.
Russian forces deployed eight 3M22 ‘Zircon’ anti-ship missiles, 33 ‘Iskander-M’ ballistic missiles, 27 Kh-101 cruise missiles and five ‘Kalibr’ cruise missiles.
In addition, 656 drones of various types were used in the strike, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, Banderol loitering munitions and Parodia decoy drones.
Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces were involved in repelling the attack.
As of 08:30, air defences had shot down or neutralised 642 aerial targets. These included 11 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles, three Kalibr cruise missiles and 602 drones of various types.
According to preliminary information, 30 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles and 33 attack drones were recorded as having struck 38 locations. Debris from downed drones was also recorded at 15 locations.
As of this morning, the attack was ongoing. Several attack drones remained in Ukrainian airspace.
