An assassination attempt has been made on Andriy Pinchuk, the former head of the so-called "DPR Ministry of State Security", in New Moscow. He was sent a parcel containing explosives, but survived the blast

This was reported by "Military".

The incident took place in the village of Shchapovo in the New Moscow area. According to preliminary information, an unknown courier delivered a parcel to Pinchuk containing a hidden explosive device. The explosion occurred the moment the former representative of the occupation administration opened the parcel. Footage shared by Russian Telegram channels shows damage to the house: shattered windows and a damaged door. Pinchuk himself later confirmed the explosion to the Russian media. According to him, he was unharmed because he managed to react in time, and also thanks to the armoured doors in the house. There is currently no official information about those behind the attack.

What is Andriy Pinchuk known for?

Andriy Pinchuk was born in Ulyanovsk and, prior to the events of 2014, worked in the Russian security services. After the war against Ukraine began, he travelled to the occupied part of Donetsk Oblast and became one of the key figures in establishing the security apparatus of the “DPR” group. In July 2014, Pinchuk headed the so-called “DPR Ministry of State Security” — a structure modelled on the special services. It was this body that carried out counter-intelligence activities in the occupied territories, searched for people whom the militants considered opponents of the occupying authorities, and exercised control within the group itself. Pinchuk left his post in 2015. After returning to Russia, he began engaging in public activities, commenting on political events and regularly supporting the Russian authorities’ actions regarding Ukraine.

Attacks on Russian military and security personnel

The explosion near Pinchuk’s home occurred against the backdrop of a series of similar incidents involving representatives of the Russian military and security sector. In particular, on 9 June 2026, Colonel Damir Davydov’s car was blown up in Balashikha, near Moscow. He was killed in the explosion. According to media reports, Davydov was involved in supplying Russian troops with missile and artillery ammunition.
