In the Chernivtsi region, law enforcement officers have uncovered a distribution network for drugs and psychotropic substances that operated via Telegram. Over 9.5 kilograms of illicit substances were seized.

Prosecutors from the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office, in collaboration with the police, have dismantled a distribution network for narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, through which illicit substances were being distributed to users in various regions of Ukraine.

Over 9.5 kilograms of drugs and psychotropic substances were seized from illicit circulation.

According to the investigation, a 22-year-old resident of the town of Khotyn in the Chernivtsi region is implicated in organising the drug trafficking operation.

To find customers, he used a specially created Telegram channel, through which he took orders and coordinated the sale of prohibited substances.

Once payment had been made, the drugs and psychotropic substances were sent by post via accounts registered to front men, or left in hiding places.

Buyers were sent photographs and the coordinates of the locations where they could collect their orders.

During the investigation, Alpha-PVP, amphetamine and cannabis were seized from the suspect. The total value of the seized substances, based on black market prices, exceeds 5 million hryvnias.

The man was charged under Parts 2 and 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court ordered him to be remanded in custody.

The offences carry a maximum sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment.

Law enforcement officers are currently identifying other individuals who may be involved in the illegal activities.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernivtsi Oblast, with operational support from officers of the Internal Security Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
