Azerbaijan has decided to evacuate its diplomatic missions in Iran amid growing tensions in the region. The decision applies to the embassy in Tehran and the consulate general in Tabriz.

This was announced by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov during a briefing with Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi.

According to him, the decision was made as part of additional security measures. Bayramov noted that the safety of Azerbaijani citizens remains a priority.

The minister also said that the readiness level of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces has been raised to the maximum level amid regional tensions.

Bayramov said that diplomatic missions had received about a thousand requests. Most of them came from Azerbaijani citizens travelling to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

According to the minister, further decisions will be made after the results of the investigation are received.

He also said that after the incident with the Iranian drone, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had instructed that appropriate measures be taken.

Baku is awaiting the results of the investigation being conducted by the Iranian side. Diplomatic steps have been taken in connection with the incident, including the sending of notes of protest and a telephone conversation with the Iranian foreign minister.

Bayramov noted that the investigation being conducted by Iran is part of the overall process.
