Bad weather is set to hit Kyiv on 22 May 2026 – forecasters have warned of thunderstorms

Thunderstorms, brief showers and a sharp deterioration in the weather are expected in Kyiv and the Kyiv region on 22 May.

On Friday, 22 May, summer-like but unsettled weather is expected in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.

Forecasters are warning of short-lived thunderstorms, which could quickly turn into heavy downpours.

According to Natalka Didenko’s forecast, the daytime temperature in the capital will rise to +28 degrees.

“Remember that what seems like a light drizzle can turn into a heavy downpour in a matter of minutes!” the forecaster emphasised.

Yellow danger level

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre has warned of a change in weather conditions in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.

Due to thunderstorms and downpours, the first, yellow, danger level has been declared.

Cloudy weather with brief sunny spells is expected in the capital and surrounding areas.

The night is expected to be dry, but during the day there will again be short-lived showers with thunderstorms.

Temperature and wind

The wind will be mainly northerly, moderate, with speeds of 5–10 m/s.

Despite the damp and unstable atmosphere, it will be hot in the region.

Overnight in the Kyiv region, temperatures are forecast to be +12…+17 degrees, and during the day – +25…+30 degrees.

In Kyiv, temperatures of +15…+17 degrees are expected at night.

During the day, the temperature in the capital will be +28…+30 degrees.
