The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine has named 17-year-old biathlete Taras Tarasyuk as the best young athlete of February. This recognition was based on the silver medal he won at the Junior Biathlon World Championships in Arber, Germany.

This was announced by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. The

expert panel of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine has selected the winner of the traditional ‘Young Athlete of the Month’ competition for February.

The title was awarded to Ukrainian biathlete Taras Tarasyuk.

The 17-year-old athlete was recognised for his successful performance at the Junior Biathlon World Championships, which took place in the German town of Arber.

There, Tarasyuk won a silver medal in the individual race.

This award marked his first individual medal at the level of the World Junior Championships.

Taras Tarasyuk was born into a sporting family.

His father is his personal coach, and his older sisters, Iryna and Tetiana, are also involved in biathlon.

Tarasyuk made his international debut in 2025.

Among his achievements is a victory at the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival in Bakuriani, Georgia.

There, alongside Viktoria Khvostenko, he won a gold medal in the mixed individual relay.

Furthermore, in January 2026, Tarasyuk, together with his sister Tetiana, won the European Junior Championships in the mixed relay.

It was the silver medal at the World Junior Championships, won at the end of February 2026, that led to Tarasyuk being named the best young athlete of the month.
