Belarus as a ‘second front’: Kuleba on Putin’s plans
He spoke about this in a comment for online.ua.
Signs of preparations for escalation
According to the diplomat, Russia views Belarusian territory as a springboard for opening a second front. Kuleba recalled that four years ago, Belarus had already served as a base for the occupiers’ advance on Kyiv.
The following worrying signs are currently being observed:
-
Military control: constant military exercises are taking place in Belarus under the direct supervision of the Russian military.
-
Mobilisation of society: Lukashenko’s regime is focusing on preparing not only regular units but the entire country for war.
Is there a threat of an imminent offensive?
Despite the active militarisation of Belarus, the former Foreign Minister calls for caution in assessments.
“Does this mean that Belarus is about to launch an offensive? In my opinion, not at the moment. A lot can still happen,” concluded Dmytro Kuleba.
The situation remains tense; however, according to the diplomat’s assessment, direct intervention by Belarusian troops in hostilities is not yet a foregone conclusion.
