‘Time to act’: Boris Johnson visits the Ukrainian front in the south
This is reported in the Daily Mail
‘Killing zone’ and drone hunting
Boris Johnson described his journey through Komyshuvakha — a village the Russians are trying to wipe off the face of the earth. “Driving along the main road is a game of death,” he writes, describing the mangled car wrecks and shattered houses. The politician witnessed how the residents’ daily lives have turned into a constant wait for strikes from Russian UAVs.
During a stop at a local shop, Johnson had to evacuate urgently following an attack warning. Together with the deputy commander of the 1st Battalion of the 65th Brigade, codenamed ‘Makar’, he experienced first-hand what ‘survival mode’ is like in southern Ukraine.
The former prime minister met those who are holding the line in Zaporizhzhia:
-
Makar — an officer who knows the value of every minute under fire.
-
Dasha (Chuika) — a signals officer.
-
Kokos — a drone operator waging a technological war.
-
Yuriy — a table tennis coach who became a soldier.
All the Ukrainian generals Johnson spoke to are certain: Putin will never capture Zaporizhzhia. The aggressor’s losses would be too great, and the city’s defences too strong.
Scathing criticism of the West Johnson did not mince his words, accusing Donald Trump and European leaders of political indecision. According to him, the West has all the tools for Ukraine’s victory — from long-range missiles to frozen Russian assets — but refuses to use them.
“No leader in Western capitals is currently prepared to do enough to achieve the goal — Ukraine’s freedom,” Johnson concluded.
The Briton reminded the world: whilst Iranian drones, developed with Russian assistance, are exploding in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East, Ukraine is fighting for the democratic values of the whole of Europe virtually alone against an autocratic regime.
