Colombia beat the DR Congo and secured their place in the 2026 World Cup play-offs ahead of schedule
The Colombian national team beat the DR Congo side in their second Group K match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match at the Akron Stadium in the Mexican city of Zapopan ended 1–0.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 76th minute. Daniel Muñoz found the back of the net following an assist from Juan Quintero.
For the Colombians, this is their second consecutive victory at this World Cup. In their opening match, the team beat Uzbekistan 3–1.
In the other Group K match of the second round, Portugal thrashed Uzbekistan 5–0. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace in that match.
After two rounds, Colombia sit top of Group K on six points and have secured their place in the knockout stages ahead of schedule. Portugal have four points and are in second place. The DR Congo are third with one point, whilst Uzbekistan remain bottom with no points.
In the third round, Colombia will face Portugal, whilst the DR Congo will take on Uzbekistan. Both matches will take place on 28 June at 02:30 Kyiv time.
The 2026 World Cup is taking place from 11 June to 19 July in the USA, Mexico and Canada. This is the first World Cup to feature 48 national teams.
