Algeria beat Jordan in a hard-fought match at the 2026 World Cup
The Jordanians were the first to score in the match. Nizar Al-Rashdan opened the scoring in the 36th minute.
After the break, the Algerian side managed to turn the game around and stage a comeback. In the 69th minute, Nadir Benbouali equalised following a pass from Riyad Mahrez.
The Algerians scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute. The goal was scored by Amin Gouiri, who secured an important victory for his team against the World Cup debutants.
In the opening round, Algeria suffered a heavy 0–3 defeat to Argentina, whilst Jordan lost 1–3 to Austria.
In the other Group J match of the second round, Argentina beat Austria 2–0 thanks to a brace from Lionel Messi.
After two rounds, Argentina, with 6 points, have secured top spot in the group and a place in the knockout stages ahead of schedule. Austria and Algeria each have 3 points. Jordan, having failed to pick up a single point, have lost their chance of progressing to the next round.
In the final third matchday, Algeria will face Austria, whilst Jordan will take on Argentina.
The 2026 World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July in the USA, Mexico and Canada. For the first time, 48 national teams are taking part in the tournament.
All participants are divided into 12 groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16.
