Up to 32,000 UAH: who in the frontline regions are they currently willing to pay the most?
The retail sector
The labour market in Ukraine’s frontline regions continues to change as a result of the war. Employers are increasingly looking for staff in the retail, logistics and manual labour sectors.

This is according to a study by OLX Robota.

Analysts have analysed the labour market situation in the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.

Sales assistants and drivers are in the highest demand

According to the study, sales assistants remain the most popular job vacancy in the frontline regions. Compared with May 2025, the number of such job advertisements has risen by 2 per cent.

Median salaries for sales assistants are:

  • 16,3 thousand hryvnias in the Kherson region;
  • 16,000 hryvnias in the Kharkiv region;
  • 15.7 thousand hryvnias in Zaporizhzhia Oblast;
  • 15,000 hryvnias in the Mykolaiv region;
  • 14,500 hryvnias in the Sumy region.

Drivers rank second in terms of the number of vacancies.

The highest salaries for them are offered in the Kharkiv region – 32,5 thousand hryvnias. In the Kherson region, the median salary is 30 thousand hryvnias, whilst in the Sumy, Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv regions it is around 27,5 thousand hryvnias.

Employers are also actively seeking general labourers. The highest pay for such workers is recorded in the Kharkiv region – 22,5 thousand hryvnias. In the Zaporizhzhia region, the pay is around 21,000 hryvnias, whilst in the Mykolaiv and Sumy regions it is around 20,000 hryvnias.

Furthermore, demand for cooks remains consistently high in the Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

Which vacancies are Ukrainians less likely to apply for?

Despite the increase in the number of vacancies, jobseekers’ interest in certain job offers is declining.

Sales roles traditionally receive the most applications, but their number has fallen by 20% over the past year.

Fewer candidates are also applying for vacancies for:

  • construction workers (-22%);
  • seamstresses (-21%);
  • car mechanics (-18%);
  • sales assistants (-17%).

At the same time, there has been a rise in interest from candidates for vacancies for general labourers (+14%), baristas (+13%), cashiers (+12%) and drivers (+3%).

Which professions have almost disappeared from the market

Analysts note that in regions close to the front line, the number of vacancies for office and creative roles has fallen significantly.

Between 2025 and 2026, there were virtually no job advertisements in these areas for estate agents, sales managers, managers, supervisors, lawyers, copywriters, auditors, photographers and social media managers.

According to experts, this trend indicates a skills shortage and a gradual shift of the workforce to safer regions of the country.
