Aurika, the younger sister of the legendary singer Sofia Rotaru, has revealed where the star is living during the full-scale war in Ukraine and what she has been up to.

The star was asked about this on the programme *Alone with Glamour*.

"She’s in Kyiv, she’s in Koncha-Zaspa, at her home. She’s doing the same things I do – gardening," Aurika said with a smile.

According to her, Sofia Mikhailovna has no plans to return to the stage, at least not until peace returns.

"I don’t know. I think she won’t return during the war, but once the war is over, then. We’ll see, I don’t know," noted the artist’s younger sister.

What Rotaru said during the full-scale war

At the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sofia Rotaru stated on social media that she was staying in Kyiv and had no intention of leaving the country. She spoke openly about the missile strikes on Ukrainian cities and admitted that she was praying for Ukraine and its defenders.

In March 2022, her grandson Anatoliy Yevdokimenko found himself at the centre of a scandal after he was detained for attempting to leave Ukraine illegally.

At the time, Anatoliy Yevdokimenko, together with his father Ruslan, the artist’s son, attempted to cross the Ukrainian-Moldovan border via the Dniester River using an inflatable boat.

Anatoliy later managed to leave Ukraine, and, according to online reports, his family may have helped him do so.

Subsequently, the artist virtually disappeared from the public eye. She did not post any new updates on social media for a long time, which sparked a wave of rumours and speculation, particularly from Russian propaganda sources.

Rotaru now leads a private life: she rarely gives interviews and seldom appears in public. On social media, she occasionally reacts to heavy shelling, sends holiday greetings to Ukrainians and shares personal posts – including archive photos with her husband and pictures of his grave.

In the summer of 2025, the singer published new photos from Kyiv for the first time since the war began.
