Nurses' Day: when is it celebrated in 2026 and what to wish
Nurses' Day
International Nurses Day in 2026 will be celebrated on 12 May. The date is fixed – it is on this day that the role of nurses in the healthcare system and their daily work with patients is honoured.

When is Nurses' Day in 2026

Nurses' Day in 2026 falls on Tuesday, 12 May. The holiday is international and is celebrated in most countries around the world, including Ukraine.

The date is linked to the birthday of Florence Nightingale — a British nurse regarded as the founder of modern nursing. It was she who laid the foundations of the profession and systematic patient care.

The holiday was officially established by the International Council of Nurses — an international organisation that brings together professional nursing communities.

Every year, it sets a key theme for the professional day. In 2026, the theme is: Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.

Why this celebration is important

Nurses are the largest group of healthcare workers. They provide patient care, oversee treatment, and work in hospitals, clinics, military medicine and rehabilitation.

In Ukraine, the role of nurses is particularly significant during the war — it is they who work daily in difficult conditions, helping the wounded and maintaining the stability of the healthcare system.

International Nurses Day is an opportunity to thank them for their work and to highlight once again the importance of their profession.
