The sequel to the cult film *The Devil Wears Prada* has got off to a flying start at the box office. Over its opening weekend, the film grossed $77 million in the US and $233.6 million worldwide, with its US debut marking the highest-grossing opening of Meryl Streep’s career.

This is reported by Harper’s Bazaar, citing data from Comscore.

The long-awaited sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” has become one of the biggest box office hits of the year. According to Comscore, in its opening weekend alone, the sequel grossed $77 million in the US and $233.6 million worldwide.

By comparison, the first instalment, released in 2006, opened in US cinemas with $27.5 million. In total, it grossed $124.7 million in the US and $326.5 million worldwide. Adjusted for inflation, its opening weekend in 2026 would be equivalent to approximately $48 million.

The budget for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is estimated at around $100 million. Thanks to this opening, the film has already demonstrated the potential to break even quickly, even taking into account the significant costs of the marketing and advertising campaign.

In three days of release, the film has climbed to seventh place in the global ranking of the highest-grossing films of 2026. It has already overtaken “Scream 7”, “GOAT: Dream Big” and “Help!”, although these films have been in cinemas for longer.

The sequel is just $8 million short of sixth place, currently held by “Wuthering Heights”. Meanwhile, the gap to “Michael” is significantly wider – around $200 million – and that film continues to boost its takings in its second week of release.

A standout result was a record for Meryl Streep. The US opening of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” with $77 million marked the best opening weekend of her career.

The sequel is being released almost 20 years after the premiere of the original film. In the plot, “Runway” magazine, under the leadership of Miranda Priestly, is going through difficult times. Andy Sachs returns to the editorial office, no longer as an assistant but as a journalist, to help pull the publication out of the crisis.

According to the plot, the girl and her sister end up in a shelter, where she sews by day and sings in a cabaret by night. It is there that she earns the nickname “Coco” and meets Baron Étienne Balsan. The path to the heights of fashion was difficult, but Chanel eventually achieved success.

“Yves Saint Laurent” was released in 2014 and has an IMDb rating of 6.2/10. The plot centres on the young Yves Saint Laurent, who presented his first collection for Dior at the age of 21. He later met Pierre Bergé – his lover and partner. Together they founded the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house, which became one of the most influential in the fashion world.

“Couture” was released in 2026 and has an IMDb rating of 5.9/10. The film is set during Paris Fashion Week.
