500 generators are being sent from the EU to Ukraine to support the power grid
Following the meeting of the Emergency Response Headquarters, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal announced that 500 generators are on their way to Ukraine from the European Union.
According to him, four powerful generators have already been received from the Belgian Agency for International Cooperation Enabel. They were purchased and delivered to Ukraine in just three weeks from the moment of the request from the Ministry of Energy. The rest of the generators are on their way.
In total, about 140 tonnes of equipment are planned to be shipped to recipients this week. This includes technical equipment needed to maintain and restore energy infrastructure after the latest Russian strikes.
Shmyhal noted that the situation in Kyiv remains difficult due to low temperatures, but the capital has managed to maintain all power cut schedules. Energy workers are working around the clock to eliminate the consequences of the shelling.
The possibility of bringing in additional equipment from countries where thermal power plants have been shut down is also being explored. According to the minister, such facilities could become donors of spare parts needed to restore the Ukrainian power system. The Ukrainian side is strengthening technical cooperation with international partners to speed up repairs and stabilise the power grid.
