“We are preparing to expand the ‘Affordable Medicines’ programme from 1 July this year. We will add a significant number of medicines for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases covering all active ingredients available in Ukraine,” Svyrydenko said.
Ukrainians will be able to obtain the new medicines free of charge or with a partial co-payment via an electronic prescription.
Svyrydenko emphasised that cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death in Ukraine. According to her, they account for around 60% of deaths in the country.
Every year, over 800,000 people are diagnosed with coronary heart disease, and nearly 50,000 suffer a heart attack.
The Prime Minister noted that a significant proportion of such cases can be prevented through regular treatment and health monitoring.
According to Svyrydenko, the “Affordable Medicines” programme remains one of the key tools for supporting the population.
To date, 6.18 million Ukrainians have already benefited from the programme. The medicines are available in 17,348 pharmacies across the country.
The programme’s list already includes 748 items. Medicines for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases are in the highest demand.
“For many people, this is daily treatment, so it is important that it is accessible and free of charge,” emphasised Svyrydenko.
In the second half of the year, the programme plans to include medicines containing all active ingredients available in Ukraine that are necessary for the outpatient treatment of cardiovascular diseases in accordance with medical protocols. The Prime
Minister also instructed the Ministry of Health to consult with the market and prepare a decision to launch the updated programme.
As reported by ThePublic, the Ministry of Health has approved an updated list of medicines and medical devices eligible for reimbursement under the ‘Affordable Medicines’ programme. The relevant order will come into force on 31 March.
