Drones attacked an oil refinery in Perm and military facilities in Grozny
On the morning of 8 May, drones attacked Russian regions, including the Perm Krai and the Chechen Republic.
In Perm, the Lukoil-Permnaftorgsintez oil refinery was hit. Local residents shared photos and videos online showing a fire on the refinery’s premises.
Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries. The plant has a capacity of around 13 million tonnes of oil per year. It is located more than 1,500 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
This is the third attack on the plant in recent days.
Explosions were also heard in Grozny on 8 May. Russian Telegram channels and state media reported a drone attack on military facilities.
Gunfire and explosions could be heard in the city. Eyewitnesses posted videos of one of the drones crashing and a fire breaking out after the strike.
According to available information, one of the drones crashed on the territory of the 42nd Guards Motorised Rifle Division. Another UAV crashed near the FSB Directorate for the Chechen Republic.
The Russian Ministry of Transport reported that following the drone strike on the administrative building of the ‘Southern Russia Air Navigation’ branch, operations at 13 airports were temporarily restricted.
The restrictions affected airports in Astrakhan, Vladikavkaz, Volgograd, Gelendzhik, Grozny, Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Magas, Mineralnye Vody, Nalchik, Sochi, Stavropol and Elista.
