The case has been referred to court, with the first hearing scheduled for January. This was reported by The Public with reference to The Guardian.
Former doctor Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been formally charged with a series of sexual offences against 38 patients, including children under the age of 13. According to investigators, the assaults took place between 2017 and 2021 at two hospitals — Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.
Spencer faces 45 charges: 15 for sexual assault, 17 for rape (assault by penetration), 9 for rape of a child under 13, 3 for penetration of a child in the same age group, and one for attempted rape.
The case is being handled by Staffordshire Police with the support of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS); the first court hearing is scheduled for 20 January 2026 at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.
The prosecution said the investigation had been long and complex, with careful assessment of the evidence, and that the case was of significant public importance. Anyone with information about the events is urged to contact the police.
