False information has been spread on social media about a ninefold reduction in maternity leave in the new Labour Code. The Centre for Countering Disinformation has stated that these claims do not correspond to the content of the draft law.

This was reported by the Centre for Countering Disinformation.

After the Cabinet of Ministers submitted a draft of the new Labour Code to the Verkhovna Rada, statements that did not correspond to the content of the document began to spread on social media.

The Centre for Countering Disinformation announced the emergence of yet another manipulation, which is actively spreading on Telegram channels.

The publications claimed that the government allegedly plans to reduce maternity leave ninefold — to 4 months instead of 3 years.

The Centre explained that these claims are false.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine noted that the draft of the new Labour Code does not abolish existing guarantees for the protection of employees.

In particular, the document provides for the preservation of a number of basic guarantees:

  • prohibition of dismissal of pregnant women and employees with children under the age of one and a half or with a disabled child;

  • guarantees for pregnant women regarding medical examinations;

  • paid leave for childcare, which can be used by both parents.

According to the explanation, each parent is entitled to two months of paid leave, meaning that the family can receive a total of four months. Single mothers or fathers are entitled to four months of such leave.

The Centre emphasised that these provisions do not cancel the guarantees related to leave for pregnancy and childcare for children under 3 years of age.

The Centre also noted that there is regular manipulation of information regarding legislative changes.

In particular, misinformation has recently been spread on social media about Ukraine allegedly selling electricity abroad during power cuts.
