The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on 8 June following Russia’s attack on Ukraine
This was announced by Ukraine’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sibiga.
Ukraine has called for a meeting of the UN Security Council
According to Sybiha, the new wave of Russian strikes on Ukraine demonstrates that Moscow continues to choose escalation over a peaceful settlement. The Foreign Minister stressed that international pressure on Russia remains necessary to restore respect for the UN Charter and to advance Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal to end the war.
“The latest wave of Russian strikes is yet another reminder that Moscow continues to choose escalation over peace and terror over diplomacy,” Sibiga said.
The minister noted that Ukraine is counting on continued support from international partners to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace. Sibiga also thanked allies for their assistance to Ukraine and their contribution to diplomatic efforts to end the war.
