The film *Battle After Battle* won six Oscars
The film *Battle After Battle*, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, won the Academy Award for Best Picture. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on 15 March.
Paul Thomas Anderson received two Oscars for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The award for Best Supporting Actor went to Sean Penn, who starred in the film. The film was also recognised in the casting category, which was a new nomination. The award for Best Film Editing went to Andy Jurgensen, who was responsible for the film’s editing.
In total, the film "The Battle of the Battle" won six Oscars.
The film starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro and Teyana Taylor. The plot of the film tells the story of the lives of members of a radical left-wing group in the US.
The film was nominated for 13 Oscars. It beat other contenders for the top prize, including the films "Sinners", "Hamnet", "Secret Agent", "Dreams of a Train" and "Sentimental Value".
The film marked Warner Bros.’ tenth win in the Best Picture category in its 110-year history and its fourth this century, following ‘Million Dollar Baby’, ‘The Departed’ and ‘Argo’.
The film was produced by Paul Thomas Anderson, Sarah Murphy and Adam Somner, who died in 2024.
"Battle by Battle" received a string of awards during the 2025–2026 awards season. The film won Best Film awards from the National Society of Film Critics, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review.
The film also won Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes, took the Best Picture award at the Critics’ Choice Awards, and received the Best Feature Film award at the Gotham Awards.
The film received the BAFTA Award for Best Film, the Producers Guild of America Award and the Directors Guild of America’s Theatrical Feature Film Award.
The film was also recognised at the Art Directors Guild Awards, the ACE Eddie Awards, the Costume Designers Guild Awards and the Make-up and Hairstylist Guild Awards. At the French César Awards, the film won the award for Best International Film.
The film became the highest-grossing work of Paul Thomas Anderson’s career. It grossed $72 million at the US box office, with worldwide takings totalling $209 million.
The film was also screened at the New York Film Festival in 2025.
