Following the drone attack, Rosneft’s Kuibyshev oil refinery has halted operations
Following a drone attack, the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery in the Samara Region has halted operations at its main crude oil processing units.
The Kuibyshev Oil Refinery, part of Rosneft, ceased oil refining on 10 June following a drone attack. Two industry sources told Reuters about this.
According to them, following the strike and subsequent fires, both CDU-4 and CDU-5 primary oil refining units were shut down. Each unit has a capacity of around 10,000 tonnes, or approximately 73,000 barrels per day.
At the time of publication, Rosneft had not commented on the situation.
Reuters notes that in recent months, Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Russian energy facilities amid a lack of progress in negotiations to end the war.
The governor of the Samara region reported that the region came under attack from drones on Wednesday night.
The Kuibyshev Oil Refinery is part of Rosneft’s Samara oil refining hub, alongside the Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran oil refineries.
According to market sources, the Syzran refinery has been out of operation since 21 May following damage to equipment caused by a drone attack and has not yet resumed operations. The Novokuybyshevsk refinery was shut down on 18 April following a drone attack and is currently operating at reduced capacity.
According to industry sources, in 2024 the Kuibyshev refinery processed 4.7 million tonnes of crude oil, or around 94,400 barrels per day. The plant produced 800,000 tonnes of petrol, 1.4 million tonnes of diesel fuel and 1.3 million tonnes of fuel oil.
