France has imposed a mandatory quarantine on a number of people due to the hantavirus
France has introduced a heightened response protocol for people who came into contact with individuals infected with the hantavirus whilst travelling on board the cruise ship MV Hondius. One of the ship’s passengers is currently in intensive care.

This is stated in a post by French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu on social media platform X.

It is noted that one of the five passengers from the cruise ship MV Hondius repatriated to France is in intensive care at the Bichat Hospital in a stable condition.

It is specified that of the five repatriated French nationals, four have tested negative for hantavirus. Meanwhile, one woman who tested positive is in intensive care in a stable condition.

According to the French Prime Minister, eight French nationals who flew on the same flight as the infected woman 15 days ago have been identified as high-risk contacts and placed under strict quarantine in a hospital setting. At present, none of them are showing symptoms of hantavirus infection.

“Our response in the health sector is clear: for all contact cases, without exception, strict quarantine in hospital settings. Two inter-ministerial coordination meetings will be held daily at the Prime Minister’s residence in Matignon,” Le Cornu wrote.

Previously, ThePublic wrote about what the hantavirus is, what its symptoms are and why it is dangerous.
