The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in support of Ukraine: 107 countries voted in favour
This was reported by The Public with reference to Reuters.
The vote took place on 24 February, the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Twelve countries voted against the resolution, while 51 abstained. Among those who voted against were Russia, Belarus and Sudan. China and the United States abstained.
The document reaffirms support for Ukraine's internationally recognised borders and expresses concern over Russia's intensified attacks on Ukraine's civilian population and critical energy infrastructure.
The resolution is not legally binding, but it carries political weight and demonstrates the international community's position on Russia's war against Ukraine.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said during the Security Council meeting that Russia's war against Ukraine remains a serious challenge to the international order and called for an immediate ceasefire.
In addition, dozens of countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and Peru, held a separate meeting in Geneva, during which they condemned Russia's actions against Ukraine and reaffirmed their support for Kyiv.
