The Catalan club is considering ‘Córdoba’ striker Adrián Fuentes, whilst the future of Vladislav Vanat and Viktor Tsygankov remains uncertain following the team’s relegation to the Segunda División.

Spanish side Girona have identified one of the candidates to bolster their attack in the event of a possible departure of Ukrainian striker Vladyslav Vanat. Meanwhile, the club has already announced major squad changes following their relegation from La Liga.

This is according to Sport.ua.

Who could replace Vanat?

According to Matteo Moretto, Girona are interested in signing 29-year-old Córdoba striker Adrián Fuentes.

Mallorca are also in the running for the player, who has not yet made a final decision on his future.

Fuentes has been playing for Córdoba since July 2025. In the 2025/26 season, he made 40 appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing three assists.

What is known about Vanat’s future

Interest in the new striker is linked to Vladislav Vanat’s uncertain future.

Last season, the Ukrainian striker made 29 appearances for Girona, scoring 10 goals.

Despite numerous transfer rumours, no official decision has yet been made regarding his future. Earlier, the media reported interest in the Ukrainian from Turkish side Trabzonspor and several La Liga clubs.

Who has Girona already let go of?

Following their relegation, the club has already begun rebuilding its squad.

Girona have officially announced the end of five players’ loan spells. Vitor Reis and Claudio Echeverri have returned to Manchester City, Hugo Rincón to Athletic Bilbao, Thomas Lemar to Atlético, and Marc-André ter Stegen to Barcelona.

In addition, Axel Witsel and Daley Blind have left the club as their contracts have expired.

What about Tsygankov?

Alongside Vanat, another Ukrainian player — Viktor Tsygankov — remains with the team for the time being.

However, no final decision has yet been made regarding the future of either player at the club.

At the end of the 2025/26 season, Girona finished 19th in the Spanish league and were relegated to the Segunda División, so a significant overhaul of the squad is expected this summer.

The search for a new striker suggests that Girona are preparing for various scenarios regarding the squad for the new season.

If Vladyslav Vanat leaves the team, Adrián Fuentes could become one of the contenders for a place in the starting line-up. If, however, the Ukrainian stays, competition in the attacking line-up will only intensify.
