NBU Governor Pyshnyy is accused of being involved in a scheme involving an art gallery

Andriy Pyshnyy, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, and his wife Lyudmyla Pyshna have been accused of using the Art Ukraine Gallery to allegedly obtain undue benefits from financial institutions. The authors of an investigation circulating online claim that this involves the purchase of lots and transfers via entities linked to Lyudmyla Pyshna.

This has been reported by UA NEWS, citing an investigation circulating online. Information confirming that Lyudmyla Pyshna is the wife of Andriy Pyshnyy is also contained in the NBU Governor’s declaration, published in the NACP register.

Andriy Pyshny, the head of the NBU, and his wife Lyudmyla Pyshna are accused of using the Art Ukraine Gallery as a platform to potentially obtain unlawful benefits from banking and non-banking institutions.

According to the report, the owners of such institutions allegedly purchased between 5 and 10 lots from the gallery via confidential catalogues. The authors of the investigation claim that this may have been a way to avoid NBU sanctions for breaches of anti-money laundering legislation.

The article states that the proceeds from the sale of artworks may have served as an advance payment. According to the authors of the investigation, the bulk of the alleged illicit gains was channelled through the ‘Vidchuy’ charitable foundation (code 39440912) and the ‘Vidchuy’ public organisation (code 37701717), which the report identifies as being controlled by Lyudmyla Pyshna.

What is known about Lyudmila Pyshna

In Andriy Pyshny’s public declaration, Lyudmila Georgievna Pyshna is listed as his wife.

The “Vidchuy” organisation’s website states that the public organisation was founded by Lyudmyla and Andriy Pyshny and has been providing assistance and supporting the social integration of people with hearing impairments since 2011.

According to NV, Lyudmila Pyshna is a social activist, fundraiser and head of the NGO “Vidchuy”. The same article noted that she is a former university lecturer, and that Andriy and Lyudmila Pyshny are raising two daughters.

Art Ukraine Gallery was described in public sources as a charitable gallery of contemporary Ukrainian art, exhibiting works by Ukrainian artists, sculptors and photographers.

What incidents are described

According to UA NEWS, one of the owners of a leading microcredit company allegedly received a nominal fine of 700,000 UAH in February 2024 instead of having his licence revoked after purchasing five lots.

The article also claims that the main intermediary in such transactions was Olena Gladkova, who is described as a close friend and assistant to the wife of the NBU governor. According to the authors of the investigation, she coordinated the exchange of lots and money.

Among the lots mentioned in the article as having been purchased to “secure the regulator’s loyalty” are:

– Verum-in-grano, by Ihor Haidai;
– The memorial/2, by Daria Pyshna;
– Bread of War 1, by Ihor Haidai;
– Dawn of the Universe, by Andrii Bilyk;
– Sandbags from The Trenches, by Daria Pyshna.

The article states that a request for an official comment on the scheme described online has been sent to the NBU.

Separately, UA NEWS recalls that the wife of the National Bank’s chairman was previously accused of a hostile takeover of the Art Ukraine Gallery. Ukrainian media also reported on the conflict surrounding the gallery in February 2025: in particular, it was reported that the founder of the Art Ukraine Gallery, Nataliia Zabolotna, had alleged a hostile takeover following a conflict with Liudmyla Pyshna.
