Serhiy (“Flash”) Beskresnov, an adviser to the Minister of Defence, shared details on social media of the Russian attack on Kyiv on the morning of 16 March. At that time, fragments of a Russian “Lancet” electric drone were found on Independence Square; the occupiers use this drone on the front line, and it does not have sufficient range to reach the capital.

The occupiers waited for a favourable wind blowing towards the capital, removed the combat units from 40 ‘Lancets’ and fitted additional batteries.

The aim was specifically to demonstrate the wreckage of this drone in Kyiv. Along with them, they launched ‘Shaheds’, to which they attached ‘Lancet’ spare parts, writes Defence Minister’s adviser Serhiy (‘Flash’) Beskrensov.

At such a long range, the ‘Lancets’ can be controlled at an altitude of 1.5 kilometres, but cannot attack ground targets.

Most of Ukraine’s air defence drones were shot down on their way to the capital, but a few made it through and left debris on Independence Square.

Russia is facing mounting pressure due to the situation on the front line, economic problems and strikes by Ukrainian drones on its territory. European officials suggest that Moscow’s increasingly aggressive rhetoric may be linked to attempts to restart the negotiation process on its own terms.
