How to keep warm in an apartment without electricity and heating: simple and safe ways
Do not let pets warm up on the battery
Even without light and heating, you can create a warm and comfortable space in your apartment using improvised tools and basic safety rules.

In cold weather, emergency power outages or heating problems can leave your home without heat. However, even in such conditions, you can keep warm without endangering yourself. This was told by Serhiy Ivanchuk, Ukrainian opera singer and Time magazine's &Man of the Year, who shared his proven ways of keeping warm in an apartment without batteries and heaters.

One of the most effective methods is to create a so-called «warm fortress» from blankets. To do this, you can use chairs or a bed, covering them with several blankets or rugs to create a small isolated space. In such a zone, body heat is retained much longer, and the air cools down more slowly.

Another simple way is to use hot water. Bottles filled with hot water can be placed under a blanket or in a sleeping bag. Such a local «heater» is especially effective at night, when the temperature in the room drops.

Candles are sometimes used for additional heat. They can be placed under a clay pot or on a metal or ceramic tray with stones that help distribute heat evenly. At the same time, it is important to be careful not to leave candles unattended.

Despite the cold, you shouldn't give up on airing. Short airings lasting 5-10 minutes help keep fresh air in the room and prevent the accumulation of carbon dioxide. It is best to do this before going to bed.

It is also advised to dress in layers, use warm socks and hats even indoors, and if possible, move a little or do light exercise to keep your blood circulating.

Even without electricity and heating, you can make your home more cosy and warm. Blankets, hot water, minimal heat from candles and basic caution will help you survive the cold period more comfortably and calmly.
