Igor Terekhov awarded the Order of Courage
On 7 December, Local Self-Government Day, the President signed a decree awarding Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov the Order of Courage, Second Class. Website of the President of Ukraine.
The document states that Terekhov repeatedly visited sites that had been shelled after rocket and drone attacks by Russian occupiers. Despite the challenges and destruction, the city authorities were able to prepare Kharkiv for the winter heating season thanks to coordination with the regional military administration, the government and international partners.
According to the decree, Terekhov is the only mayor of a large city to receive such a state award today.
The awarding of the Kharkiv mayor demonstrates the importance of responding quickly to challenges and working continuously to restore urban infrastructure, and emphasises the important role of local authorities in ensuring security, livelihoods and stability in cities during wartime.
