Iranian drones attacked Azerbaijan's airport in Nakhchivan, two people were injured
Around noon on 5 March, drone attacks were carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
One of the drones fell on the terminal building of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic airport. Another drone fell near a school building in the village of Shekerabad.
As a result of the attack, the airport building was damaged and two civilians were injured.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry condemned the attack.
"We strongly condemn these drone attacks carried out from Iranian territory, which caused damage to the airport building and injured two civilians. This attack on Azerbaijani territory violates the norms and principles of international law and leads to increased tension in the region," the ministry said in a statement.
In connection with the incident, Iran's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, Mujtaba Demirchil, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Azerbaijani side plans to express its strong protest and deliver a note verbale.
Azerbaijan also demands that Iran provide an explanation of the incident as soon as possible and take urgent measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Azerbaijani side has stated that it reserves the right to take appropriate response measures.
