Israel launched massive air strikes on Iran: more than 80 fighter jets dropped 230 bombs
On Saturday night, the Israeli military carried out a massive wave of air strikes on Iranian targets, including in Tehran and the central part of the country. The main targets were military facilities involved in the production and storage of ballistic missiles.
This was reported by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), according to the Times of Israel.
According to the Israeli military, more than 80 Israeli Air Force fighter jets were involved in the operation, dropping about 230 bombs on specific targets.
One of the main targets of the strike was an underground complex for the storage and production of ballistic missiles. The IDF said that hundreds of Iranian armed forces personnel were operating at this facility, which also housed bunkers and military headquarters.
In addition, the Israeli military reported the destruction of another missile storage facility, which housed bunkers and infrastructure for their launch.
Among the targets attacked was Imam Hossein University, a military academy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the IDF, this facility was used as a reserve centre and assembly point for IRGC units, particularly during military operations.
At the same time, CNN, citing a video from the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, reports that a sports centre in southern Tehran was damaged during the attacks.
According to the broadcaster, the building's gym with sports equipment and a martial arts training area were destroyed. There are also reports of the complete destruction of a library and a mosque on the complex's grounds.
Videos and photos from Tehran show thick black smoke and flashes of explosions in the early hours of the morning. In addition, a fire was reported in the area of Mehrabad Airport.
The semi-official Iranian news agency Mehr said that Israeli forces had struck the airport.
