EU seeks diplomatic solutions to resolve situation in Middle East — Callas
The European Union is in constant contact with Israel and is coordinating actions with Arab partners to find diplomatic solutions to the situation in the Middle East. This was announced on social media by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, against the backdrop of the start of US military operations in the region.
According to Callas, recent events in the Middle East pose a danger. She reported on talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and other foreign ministers in the region.
The head of European diplomacy noted that the EU is working closely with its Arab partners to develop possible diplomatic solutions.
Kallas also stated that the Iranian regime is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people in its own country, and that its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programmes, as well as its support for terrorist groups, pose a serious threat to global security.
She recalled that the European Union has already imposed tough sanctions against Iran and supported diplomatic initiatives, particularly on the nuclear issue.
At the same time, Callas stressed that the protection of civilians and compliance with international humanitarian law remain a priority.
According to her, the consular services of EU countries are involved in facilitating the departure of citizens from the region, and non-essential EU personnel are being evacuated.
In addition, the EU naval mission Aspides is on high alert in the Red Sea and is ready to ensure the security of the maritime corridor.
