Great Britain, Canada, and Australia announced the official recognition of Palestinian statehood
The relevant statements were made by the prime ministers of these states, reports Radio Liberty.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized in his address that since 1947, Canadian foreign policy has been based on the idea of creating two states as the only way to achieve "stable peace" in the Middle East. According to him, Canada has been waiting for such an agreement to become a reality for decades, but actions by both Israel and the group "Hamas" (recognized as a terrorist organization in the US and EU) have hindered this.
Carney recalled the October 7, 2023, attacks organized by "Hamas," emphasizing that this organization oppresses the residents of Gaza, terrorizes Israel, and must be fully disarmed and removed from future governance of Palestine.
At the same time, the Prime Minister criticized Israeli policies of settlement expansion and military actions in Gaza, which have led to mass civilian casualties. He summarized: under these conditions, Canada recognizes the State of Palestine and is ready to support its efforts to build peaceful coexistence alongside Israel.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also announced that the United Kingdom recognizes Palestine as an independent state. In his video address, he explained that this step is aimed at restoring hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and implementing the principle of "two states." Starmer emphasized that "Hamas" has no right to participate in the future governance or security of Palestine.
The third country is Australia. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a statement on social media stating that "The Commonwealth of Australia officially recognizes the independent and sovereign State of Palestine." According to him, this step aligns with the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for self-determination and fits into international efforts to resolve the situation.
His statement emphasizes that recognition of Palestine is part of a broader peace process, which includes a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and creating conditions for the coexistence of both states.
French President Emmanuel Macron also plans to carry out a grand diplomatic turnaround on Monday by gathering several Western countries to recognize the Palestinian state, reports Politico.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that at the upcoming UN General Assembly session in New York, he will oppose calls for the creation of a Palestinian state, calling this initiative "a danger to Israel's existence" and "absurd reward for terror."
"At the UN, I will present the truth. This is the truth of Israel, but at the same time, the objective truth of our righteous struggle against the forces of evil and our vision of true peace – peace through strength," he said at a government meeting in Jerusalem.
Netanyahu emphasized that Israel must "fight on all fronts" against "false propaganda and demands to create a Palestinian state." According to him, international recognition of Palestinian statehood only encourages actions by the group "Hamas" (recognized as a terrorist organization in the US and EU).
The Prime Minister also recalled that after his speech at the General Assembly, he will meet with US President Donald Trump. This will be the fourth meeting with him since the beginning of Trump's second presidential term. "We have many issues to discuss," Netanyahu noted.
