Torture of a volunteer in Antratsyt: Main Intelligence Directorate reveals details of the suspects

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has released details of four members of the Russian occupation forces suspected of mistreating a Ukrainian civilian volunteer in Antratsyt, Luhansk Oblast.
According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, the suspects were charged by investigators from the National Police of Ukraine under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, with the assistance of Ukrainian intelligence.
The case concerns events in 2014 in the temporarily occupied town of Antratsyt. According to the investigation, members of the occupying forces abducted a Ukrainian civilian volunteer and subjected her to brutal abuse.
The woman, along with three other people, was helping to evacuate women and children from the combat zone, as well as supporting Ukrainian servicemen in eastern Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the occupiers illegally detained her and other civilians from June until the end of September 2014.
While in captivity, the volunteer was tortured, suffered physical injuries, was repeatedly raped and threatened with death.
Who is involved in the case
The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported that it had released the personal details of four individuals involved in the atrocities in occupied Antratsyt. Among them are three collaborators and one citizen of the aggressor state, Russia.
The intelligence service names Oleksandr Petrykin, born on 10 November 1971, as the main suspect. He held the position of so-called “commandant” of the so-called “military commandant’s office of the city of Antratsyt” and was known by the call sign “Black Sasha”.
According to the GUR, in addition to ordering the abduction and acts of violence against the woman, Petrikin also stole her Fiat Doblo car.
Three further suspects are Andriy Ugryumov, born on 12 March 1989, a resident of the village of Kam’yane in the Antratsyt district; Yegor Khudolei, born on 26 July 1988, a resident of the village of Shchotove in the Antratsyt district; and Denys Karaban, born on 6 May 1989.
According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, Karaban is likely an active-duty serviceman in the armed forces of the aggressor state, Russia. The intelligence service has also published his passport and other identification details.
What the suspects are accused of
The suspects have been notified of charges of cruel treatment of the civilian population, torture, sexual violence and other violations of the laws and customs of war, committed by a group of individuals acting in concert.
This relates to Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
One of the suspects is additionally charged with the unlawful appropriation of a civilian’s property under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Who solved the crime
The Main Intelligence Directorate noted that the crime was solved by Ukrainian intelligence officers, the Operational Support Division for the Investigation of War Crimes of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine, and the Cyberpolice Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
The intelligence service emphasised that there must be accountability for every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people.
