Kyiv and the region with emergency power outages: hundreds of thousands of families are left without electricity
As of the evening of 9 January, about 210,000 families in Kyiv Oblast are still without electricity. The reason for this was severe weather conditions and a nighttime enemy attack. This was announced by the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Nikola Kalashnik.
According to him, almost 200 emergency teams are working around the clock in the communities of the oblast. The most difficult situation is recorded in Bucha, Obukhiv and Fastiv districts. Power engineers and utilities are forced to work in snow and ice conditions and clear downed trees that have damaged power lines. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service and community workers are also involved in eliminating emergency outages.
The head of the regional state administration stressed that the region has invincibility points where residents can keep warm, charge gadgets and use the Internet. Critical infrastructure is powered by backup energy sources, the population is provided with heat and water, and social institutions, shops and pharmacies operate using generators or batteries.
At the same time, emergency power outages continue in Kyiv on 10 January. The company DTEK Kyiv Electricity Networks explained that they were introduced due to the effects of shelling and overloading of the networks and do not follow hourly schedules, as they are applied in response to a critical imbalance in the power system. Consumers are urged to take turns using powerful appliances, emphasising that every kilowatt counts.
According to the command of Ukrenergo, emergency blackouts were reintroduced on 10 January in the capital and Kyiv region. DTEK reminded that schedules do not apply during such outages.
After a massive attack by Russian drones and missiles on the night of 9 January, four people were killed and more than 20 were injured in Kyiv. Emergency power cuts were introduced in all districts of the capital. As of the morning of 10 January, power companies managed to restore electricity to 588,000 households. At the same time, about 60,000 families on the left bank remain without power. Emergency power outages are also in effect in Holosiivskyi and Pecherskyi districts, while the rest of the city is gradually returning to hourly schedules.
An emergency power outage in Kyiv temporarily stopped water supply, heating and electric transport systems, the Kyiv City State Administration reported. Kyivpastrans noted that electric transport stopped on the left and right banks, but duplicate bus routes were launched. In particular, the bus route 3T Starovokzalna Street - Ring Road was organised for the Borshchahivskyi high-speed tram. The Kyiv metro is currently operating without changes.
