Kyiv to switch to scheduled electricity supply by the end of the day
The government expects that by the end of 10 January Kyiv will switch to scheduled electricity supply schedules. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko, commenting on the progress of restoring the power system after massive missile and drone attacks.
According to her, the heat supply system in the capital has already been launched. Heat-generating facilities supply heat to residential buildings, and heat is supplied directly to homes in stages. Full stabilisation of heat supply is expected today.
The situation with electricity remains more complicated. The right bank of Kyiv has been almost completely switched to scheduled outages, while emergency outages are still in place on the left bank. According to the Prime Minister, the power grids have suffered significant damage, and due to low temperatures, electricity consumption has increased, in particular due to the active use of electric heaters. In this regard, citizens are urged to conserve electricity during the period of restoration of the power grid.
Svyridenko stressed that the government is coordinating with generating companies and all relevant services, and the state provides all the necessary support to increase electricity supply as soon as possible. This is what should allow the capital to switch exclusively to planned outage schedules by the end of the day.
Recovery works are also underway in Kyiv region. According to the Prime Minister, power supply has already been restored to 275,000 homes. It is expected that the rest of the region's residents will also receive electricity by the end of the day.
Ukrenergo confirmed that power engineers managed to quickly eliminate the causes of emergency blackouts in several regions. At the same time, emergency blackouts will continue to be applied on the left bank of Kyiv region and in certain districts of the capital. The reason for this is the consequences of previous massive attacks on power facilities. Consumers are advised to monitor the latest information on the official websites of the regional power distribution companies.
