Київське море різко обміліло: до затопленого ДОТа вже ходять пішки
This has been reported by the Telegram channel “Buchansky Insider”.
The Kyiv Reservoir has dried up rapidly due to falling water levels.
As a result, it is now possible to walk up to Dota No. 581 in Lyutezh, which is usually submerged, and even touch the structure.
“This structure, as part of the defensive fortifications around Kyiv, was built back in the 1930s. During the Second World War, the structure was of strategic importance and became the site of battles for the capital,” the report states.
The published footage shows motorcyclists riding along the reservoir’s shore and people walking there.
The rapid shallowing of the Kyiv Reservoir, as well as the mass death of fish, were reported back in March.
At that time, the water level in the Kyiv Reservoir had fallen so much that the water had receded from the banks by tens of metres.
Yevhen Khlobystov, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, told the Apostrophe TV channel that the most likely cause was the intensive release of water through the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Station.
According to him, this may have been done to increase electricity generation.
Khlobystov noted that for the spring period, when high water levels are usually observed, such a phenomenon is not natural. He therefore considers other factors to be less likely.
“For me, this is the most likely explanation for why this happened, because it is now March, spring, the flood season, and there are no other reasons for the water level in the Kyiv Reservoir to drop so catastrophically. Under the current martial law, such enterprises operate under special conditions and therefore have every right not to provide, or to provide only very limited, information regarding their operations,” he explained.
The fact of the water level drop was recorded by representatives of the ‘Green Guard’ environmental patrol and the Kyiv City Environmental Inspectorate.
According to the activists, such water discharges are particularly dangerous during the pre-spawning and spawning periods.
At this time, fish move into shallow waters to spawn.
If the water recedes sharply from the shore, the spawning grounds are left exposed, which can lead to mass fish deaths.
The Kyiv Reservoir covers an area of 922 square kilometres.
It was created between 1964 and 1966 in connection with the construction of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Station near Vyshhorod.
The reservoir plays a key role in the capital’s water supply, regulating the flow of the Dnipro and providing flood protection.
As reported by ThePublic, a spill of sunflower oil was recorded in the port of
Chornomorsk following shelling.
